Interviewer: Can you share the story behind how River City Roofing began?
River City Roofing: The company started with my dad over 40 years ago. He ran roofing companies in Miami and Orlando before coming to Jacksonville. Eventually, he decided to step away from the industry, and that’s when I took over. At the time, it was basically just a phone number. I got licensed, changed the name, and made it my own.
Interviewer: What was it like taking over the company at such a young age?
River City Roofing: I was around 22 or 23 years old. It was a challenge, but it also gave me the opportunity to build something from the ground up. I focused on doing things the right way and limiting liability by starting fresh with a new name and structure.
Interviewer: You’ve been in business for over 20 years now. What’s helped you last when so many companies don’t?
River City Roofing: Steady growth. I’ve seen companies grow too fast and disappear just as quickly. My goal has always been to grow slowly, get better over time, and focus on quality rather than volume.
Interviewer: What does it mean to you to be considered a legacy company?
River City Roofing: It means building something that lasts. I’d love to one day pass this company on to my son, a family member, or someone else who wants that opportunity. Creating long-term value really matters to me.
Interviewer: How does that long-term mindset influence how you run the business today?
River City Roofing: It keeps us focused on reputation, honesty, and doing the job right. When you plan to be here for decades, every decision matters.
